Era opens season with win over Celeste

ERA — The Era Hornets kicked off the 2009 season with a 27-12 home victory over the Celeste Blue Devils Friday.
After the Blue Devils’ Jory Brock returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown giving the Blue Devils an early 6-0 lead, the Hornets answered quickly putting together a seven-play, 60-yard scoring drive on their first possession to tie the game at 6-6 with 9:27 left in the first quarter.
The Hornets struck again at the 6:57 mark of the second quarter on a 21-yard touchdown reception by Codie Hope from Trey Dunn to give Era a 12-6 lead.
Later in the second quarter, Trey Dunn would hook up with Justin Lance for another touchdown reception. With the successful two-point conversion run by Jace Sutton the Hornets took a 20-6 lead into halftime.
The Blue Devils put together a touchdown drive of their own on their first possession of the second half which was capped off by a 39-yard touchdown run by Jory Brock to make the score 20-12 in favor of the Hornets.
Era put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Sutton to cap off another seven-play scoring drive by the Hornets. With the PAT by Nathan Metzler the Hornets led 27-12, which was the final score.
