Saint Jo rips Gold-burg

GOLD-BURG — The Saint Jo Panthers opened the 2009 season Friday with a 50-0 win over Gold-burg in a game that was called in the third quarter because of the six-man mercy rule.
The Panthers started the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run by Jake Ellingwood. Richard James added the extra point kick to make it 7-0.
Ellingwood added another score on a 79-yard TD run. The PAT kick failed, leaving Saint Jo with a 13-0 lead.
The next score came via a 14-yard TD pass from Luke Chaffin to Joey Lindenborn. James added the PAT kick to make it 20-0.
The Panthers scored again on a 12-yard TD run by Lindenborn. James’ extra point kick made it 27-0.
Brady Chadick added the next touchdown on a 33-yard run. James kicked another PAT through the uprights to make it 34-0.
Saint Jo scored on another pass, this one from 21 yards from Chaffin to Aaron Sapp.
The final score came when Lindenborn recovered a fumble and rumbled in from 22 yards out.
Ellingwood led the Panthers in rushing with three carries for 110 yards. Chadick added seven rushes for 57 yards. Chaffin threw for 59 yards. Chadick caught one pass for 17 yards, Josh Hale caught two passes for 14 yards, Lindenborn caught one pass for 14 yards and Ellingwood caught one pass for 10 yards.
Defensively, Shaden Clark had nine tackles, Ellingwood added eight and James had seven.
